The Boys and Girls Club of Alpena provides a vast amount of programs to area youth to help them realize their potential as productive and responsible citizens. The following is a list programs that we provide the area youth ages 6-18:
This fun and exciting program prepares teens for the working world. Club teens 13-18 years old embark on a journey to explore careers, make sound educational decisions and find success in the world of work.
Money Matters promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members ages 13-18 by building their basic money management skills. Participants learn how to manage a checking account, budget, save and invest. They also learn about starting small businesses and paying for college.
 
 
BGCA’s new college readiness program, is here! This program provides a range of services to guide Club members as they work toward high school graduation and prepare for post-secondary education and career success.
 
 
The SMART (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) Moves program is a nationally acclaimed prevention program originally developed in the 1980s with help from prevention specialists and Clubs around the country. Newly revised in 2011, the program incorporates the latest information and approaches that BGCA has learned about effective prevention. Participants will be exposed to various activities designed to hone their decision-making and critical-thinking skills, as well as learn how to avoid and/or resist alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and premature sexual activity.
Power Hour: Making Minutes Count helps Club members ages 6-18 achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring and high-yield learning activities and encouraging members to become self-directed learners.
Designed to incorporate healthy living and active learning in every part of the Club experience, Healthy Habits emphasizes good nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well-being. The program, for ages 6 to 15, is the “Mind” component of Triple Play: A Game Plan for the Mind, Body and Soul.
WANNA PLAY?encourages youth ages 6 to 12 to increase their overall fitness and health through physical activity and improved nutrition education, while learning the fundamental skills of baseball and softball. WANNA PLAY? increases members’ physical fitness by focusing on agility, balance and coordination. This program features a variety of fun and engaging activities and games to help Club members improve their fitness; increase awareness of good nutrition and hydration; and learn basic baseball and softball skills and knowledge.
